A Legacy of Documenting.
My grandfather began filming my family’s lives in the late 1960s. Growing up viewing and eventually becoming a part of this footage has inspired me to tell multimedia stories. Through my audio/video work I strive highlight moments and narratives that are meaningful, joyful and just.
PROJECTS
“Liberty Lunch”
The Drag: Stories
In the historic slew of iconic Austin music venues, Liberty Lunch stands out. Following the fall of iconic hippie music hall the Armadillo World Headquarters, Liberty Lunch became the new hub for free spirits and punk rockers alike throughout the 1980s and 90s. Despite its demolition in 1999, thousands of memories live in the hearts and minds of its former patrons. This project was completely self-produced. I developed the concept, conducted the reporting, wrote and edited the script, recorded the audio, and edited and mixed the final piece. I feel that this piece speaks best to my storytelling ability.
Personal Project
In this mini documentary, concert photographer Jalie Rhoades shares her passion and details her path to success. This film was entirely self shot and edited and produced as part of my coursework for the University of Texas at Austin.
“White Hats”
Texas Monthly
They’re the first American superheroes, the legendary riders in white hats, Los Diablos Tejanos — the Texas Rangers. “White Hats” dives into the truth of their complex legacy. I am credited as an additional producer for this series. I spent countless hours researching historical documents, combing through interview tape and editing episode material in Pro Tools. My specific area of interest falls under Episode 3: “La Hora de Sangre”, where I discuss the impact and legacy of Tejano journalist Jovita Idar in an interview segment.
“Capturing the Moments Music Makes”
“One By Willie: Live From Luck!”
Texas Monthly
In “One by Willie”, Texas Monthly’s John Spong hosts intimate conversations with a range of prominent guests about the Willie Nelson songs that mean the most to them. In the “Live from Luck!” mini season, I am credited as an additional editor, as I helped shape the final episode content, made technical edits in Pro Tools and produced the final episode mix.
“The Perfect LP”
Personal Project
Created, recorded, edited and produced by myself, Kennedy Grigsby and Jaxon Schwichtenberg. “The Perfect LP mimics traditional radio in which the hosts selected a topic for each episode and created a playlist that corresponds with said topic to discuss. Responsibilities for creating and distributing this show included - researching episode content, coordinating guest appearances, editing episodes in Pro Tools and Adobe Audition, creating show cover art and distributing episodes via Spotify for Podcasters. This project served as my senior capstone at the University of Texas at Austin.
